We love this question at Marti & Co.!
Ah … there so many choices and how will this happen between work, wedding planning and spending time with your fiance, family and friends. Here at Marti and Co, we can help save you time by sharing what’s trending now and by offering some tips and tricks for choosing accessories that complement your wedding gown.
No matter what is trending now (which for the record is mixing metals like rose gold with gold, minimalist style and hair crowns) — your style is always trending. It’s just a matter of finding the the right fit between that style and the current trends. To help with this, we are sharing 7 of our favorite tips below.
1. Coordinating vs Matching
Consider coordinating rather than matching your accessories to the specific color of your gown. For example, if you like pearls and you already found the style of necklace you like and are looking for a jeweled comb to complete your look. Of course, finding a comb that is close to the same shade of the pearl is great. But, it’s actually more important to find the exact style and length of the jewelry piece, rather than to find an exact color match. And if you like to wear jewelry, we say go for as many pieces as you want. The sky’s the limit on your wedding day! Showcasing your individual style is always the way to go.
2. Wear a Single Accessory
This lovely Bride was recently married and wasn’t planning on wearing a necklace until she saw this necklace at our Shop while she was shopping for earrings. She thought the dress was too embellished for a necklace hence why she was just shopping for earrings. However, when she tried the necklace on with her dress, it was just the accessory she needed to finish off the look. She shared afterward with us that she received so many compliments on her necklace and as an added bonus, she has worn the necklace many times after her wedding day. This single accessory was her standout item! Here are other accessories that can be worn as a single accessory.
3. Look for an Heirloom Accessory
A vintage Brooch is the perfect something old, borrowed and/or blue. They are the most versatile accessory on this planet (and one of the oldest!)! Here are some ideas: Add a comb to the back and use the brooch as a hair accessory. Add one or a few to the sash on your wedding gown or to an heirloom hankie for your bouquet wrap. If your carrying a clutch, a brooch is the just the right amount of dazzle. Smaller brooches can also be made into shoe clips. This is another accessory that can be worn after your wedding. Win-Win!
4. Not Sure Where to Start?
Look for an element from your wedding gown that can be repeated in a jeweled comb, earrings or a bracelet.
For example, if your engagement ring is a white gold marquis cut, both of the hair accessories above have these same elements within their design. The comb would be a beautiful hair accessory for you and so would the barette. Also, look to the design elements on your wedding gown for other ideas that you can use in your accessories. This attention to detail adds a glam dimension to your wedding day look and also, your pictures.
5. Make a Statement by Adding A Belt or Sash
We like the look of a beaded sash on a thin ribbon to further highlight your waist. Another great look is a silk chiffon flower sash with glitz accents. The beauty of a sash is that it works with all figure types and adds another element of design to your look. Many different styles are available at any Bride’s price point. Think of looking to shops on Etsy, bridal shops like Blhdn or a designer that offers custom designs. At Marti & Co., we offer custom designs for belts and sashes and have a wide variety of embellishments in stock for your belt or sash. Your sure to find the design you’re looking for, and most of all, a custom fit for you. Another way to get a custom fit is to do it yourself or enlist the help of a talented family member. Click on the link above from ehow.com to find easy to follow instructions for making your own sash.
6. Mix Metals
Consider mixing metals for a modern on-trend look. This trend gives you so many more choices since all pieces from sashes to jewelry come in all of the metals – gold, rose gold and silver. This will make your shopping easier too because an elegant look doesn’t come from perfectly matched accessories, it comes from accessories that represent you and your unique style for your wedding day. The trick we found with mixing metals is to keep one element the same, whether it’s the shape of the stone – round, marquis, etc. or another design element such as pearls in your earrings, bracelet, and necklace even though the earrings are gold and the bracelet is rose gold. This design element works especially well with a wedding sash or belt.
7. Customize is Always an Option
Can’t find what you’re looking for? Go Custom … FrouFrouChic, Kendra Scott, Helena Noelle, Shops on Etsy or Marti & Co. and many other sources are available to design you anything custom from jewelry to a wedding belt. Here are some ideas from these sources.
