Tell us about your bridal boutique business.

The Dress by Morgan Lynn is a bridal gown boutique of simple elegance! The Dress by Morgan Lynn offers brides a unique one-on-one appointment-based shopping experience!

How did you get started? 

I always love this question, and for two reasons. Number one is because I always love learning about other businesses – how they got shared, how they have grown, and how their personal passions blossom through their business! And secondly, because I love sharing my personal journey, I will share the abbreviated version!

 I always joke that my story started with a passion for fashion. I am a typical small-town, midwest girl who grew up on a farm and was involved in 4-H. I participated in many project areas through that organization, including swine, citizenship, clothing, and fashion. I had many opportunities through 4-H to participate in fashion and clothing projects.

When in college, I worked at a bridal store and fell in love with all things bridal. I had the opportunity to write a business plan for a class, and I chose to write mine on a bridal store. A business plan is a working document, and since 2014, mine has been edited, dreamed about, put on the shelf, and revisited many times. 

Insert 2020 – the timing of putting the plan into action finally felt right. Nothing like a newborn baby and a global pandemic to make it ‘feel right.’ So, long story short, this business wasn’t just dreamed up one day. It truly has been a long time coming. 

What is it about owning a wedding boutique that stole your heart? 

The people! The excitement around the experience of shopping for a bride’s special dress is so contagious! I love being surrounded by positivity + excitement! The mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends, and ultimately the most wonderful brides who steal my heart!  

What do you love most about weddings? 

The love! I love, love! It is such a beautiful thing seeing two people commit to each other and their contagious love for each other on their special day! I also love seeing two families become one!

What’s an essential piece of advice that Brides-to Be need to hear when choosing their wedding dress? 

Oh gosh, this is hard; I don’t know if I can just come up with only one essential piece of advice. I will sum this up the best I can – your love is unique to you, and your shopping experience should be just as unique! Don’t get caught up in comparing your shopping experience, wedding day look, or ‘YES’ moment to your friends or those you see on TV! Every bride I work with is unique; embrace that!

Let’s talk about budgets! Please tell us about budgeting for a wedding dress, including accessories and alterations. 

Dresses in my store range from $900-$2,500! Almost all dresses need some alterations. I do not offer an in-house seamstress, so I can not speak on behalf of that piece – but when selecting the bride’s dress size, I always work with the bride to determine a fit + size that would be ideal for her in hopes of needing minimal alterations.
